Coffee is more than just a morning drink. Behind every cup are different coffee species, varieties, growing regions and processing methods — all of which influence the final taste.

Arabica — Delicate and Aromatic
Coffea arabica is one of the most widely cultivated coffee species in the world. It generally grows best at higher elevations and is known for its complex aroma and balanced acidity.
Depending on where it is grown and how it is processed, Arabica can have notes of chocolate, nuts, berries, citrus or flowers.
Robusta — Bold and Intense
Coffea canephora, commonly known as Robusta, is generally more resistant to heat, pests and disease than Arabica. It is often grown at lower elevations.
Robusta usually has a stronger, more intense flavor, with higher bitterness and more caffeine. It is also widely used in espresso blends because it can contribute body and a rich crema.
Liberica — Rare and Distinctive
Coffea liberica is much less common than Arabica and Robusta. Its beans are typically larger and have a distinctive shape.
Liberica coffees can offer unusual aromatic profiles, sometimes described with fruity, floral, woody or smoky characteristics. They remain a specialty choice in many coffee markets.
Excelsa — A Unique Profile
Excelsa is commonly associated with Coffea liberica and is often discussed as a distinct coffee type. It is relatively rare compared with Arabica and Robusta.
Its flavor can be bright and fruity while also having deeper, more complex notes, making it interesting for people who want to explore beyond traditional coffee profiles.
What Really Changes the Taste?
The coffee species is only one part of the story. Altitude, climate, soil, processing method, roasting and brewing all influence what you taste in the cup.
The same coffee variety can taste completely different when grown in different regions or processed in different ways.
At CUP & GO, we believe that understanding coffee makes every cup more interesting. From the origin of the bean to the final roast, every step helps create its character.
